How to RegisterTo become registered as a trade marks attorney in Australia you must meet technical, academic and personal criteria. Qualified patent attorneys meet the technical requirements for registration as a trade marks attorney and additional technical requirements in patent-specific subject matter. They are eligible for registration as trade marks attorneys when they satisfy the trade marks attorney requirements. Registration stepsStep 1 If you haven’t studied Topic Groups A,B,C,D at Institutions with Board accredited courses you will need to be granted the necessary exemptions from the Board. Information on exemptions can be found on the Trade Marks registration exemptions page. Step 2 To obtain registration you must obtain from the Professional Standards Board a written statement that you have completed the education and academic requirements (in accordance with Regulation 20. 6 of the Trade Marks Regulations 1995). You need to apply from the Board for Advice of Completion of Examinable Subjects and of Academic Qualifications (known as a Written statement). Download and fill out the following approved form – PSB 12 The Advice of Completion of examinable subject and of academic qualifications (“written statement”) can be issued only after you have completed the technical and academic qualifications. You should provide with your application an original or certified copy of results advices, exemption notices and/or academic records. Step 3 Once you have met all criteria, you can apply for registration on the approved form
