Code of conduct

The process of applying for an intellectual property (IP) right, especially in the area of patents, can be complex and long.

Sometimes, an innovator or other members of the public will require the legal expertise of an IP specialist, such as a registered patent attorney or trade marks attorney, to assist them to file an IP application in order to meet the legislative requirements.

The behaviour and professional conduct of all registered patent attorneys and trade marks attorneys working in Australia must meet a strict set of standards and regimes.

Those standards and regimes are set out by legislation and are explained in a specific Code of Conduct for attorneys.
